A microscope slide is a thin flat piece of glass, typically 75 by 26 mm (3 by 1 inches) and about 1 mm thick, used to hold objects for examination under a microscope. Microscope slides are usually made of optical quality glass, such as soda
lime glass or borosilicate glass which are costly. To reduce the cost of buying new specimen slide every time it breaks or lost during an experiment, i-Slide has been used during students’ Laboratory practices. The mounting of specimens on microscope slides is often critical for successful viewing. To lower the inability of the students to view the exact image clearly among the specimens, i-Slide has used same printed images of the specimens on the glass slides. This will help the students in guiding them to obtain a similar image as shown in the manual book, as well as among their peers. Due to the revolutionization of technology in education, i-Slide have also integrated the usage of digital technology which enables the lecturers to impart knowledge and for students to acquire it easily. The i-Slide contains QR-code that codes for informations of the specific specimens with a complete labelled diagram which enables the students to obtain the facts on the observed specimen and the overview of what they are expected to observe. The QR-code were generated from QR-code generator app and were printed on different coloured paper for easy colour-coding of specimens. This allows the students to store the correct specimens in the correct colour-coded boxes. The colour-coded boxes also contains QR-code that codes a link to a VR-video for the students to view on a specific specimen. In conclusion, the incorporation of QR-code along with VR-technology in microscopic slides is still a novelty to many people including teachers and students. The usage of VR-technology in i-Slide has made the process of teaching and learning in science laboratory rewarding and more enjoyable.
